Colorado River to Salton Sea through the desert by Jeep
The historic Bradshaw Trail winds it's way through the Southern California desert from the Colorado River to the Salton Sea. The trail was developed in the 1860s as a stagecoach route linking the Los Angeles area with the gold fields of La Paz in Arizona. Today it remains a popular trail for off-roaders and adventurers. The Bradshaw itself is about 70 miles long, but the entire route from Blythe to Salton Sea stretches around 80 miles.
While mostly tame terrain, there are areas with deep sand and some rocky stretches. There is also plenty of fine and coarse washboard, especially toward the west end of the trail. Be sure you air-down to soften the ride.
Our intrepid adventurers, KI6WD and N6QYQ, took side trips into Augustine Pass and Amy's Wash. Augustine Pass is not for the faint-hearted. It is a trail of moderate difficulty that definitely requires 4WD and high clearance. The path through Amy's Wash is sandy but can only be described as beautiful.
